How to Safely Transport Artwork, Antiques, and Valuables Without Damage
No matter what you do, don't forget to take extra care of your stuff when you're moving to a new place. It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the moving stuff, but make sure to keep these special items in mind before you start packing. For example, if you're moving art or mirrors, antiques, or other fragile keepsakes, it can be tricky. Here are some examples of items that need extra attention when moving: Mirrors, Framed and Unframed Art, Fine Art, Canvas Art, Family Heirlooms, Family Photos, Collectibles, Special Keepakes and Nostalgic Items, Antique Furniture, Porcelain and Glass, Crystal Barware and Goods, China Dinnerware, Art Sculptures, and anything else that's worth keeping in your home.
If these items are really important, it might be a good idea to get Packers and Movers in Zirakpur to do the packing and moving for you. But if you're going to do some or all of the moving yourself, you'll need to be extra careful to keep everything safe.
Artwork, framed prints, and mirrors
First, find some big, sturdy picture boxes big enough to store your art, prints, and mirrors. I suggest using the original boxes they came in if you saved them. You can also get telescope boxes to store mirrors, art, and other flat, rectangular items.
Instead of the usual plastic wrap, I suggest you wrap your artwork and mirrors in glass. It's a super-smooth paper that's resistant to air, water, and grease, so you should be good to go when it comes to protecting your fine art, prints, or glass from blemishes. It's not too hard to find, and you can usually buy it by the roll.
Once you've secured the Glassine with the tape, it's time to use the bubble wrap. Put your artwork and mirrors in the bubble wrap a few times and wrap it with packing tape. It's best to wrap it at least twice to give it enough cushioning.
Framed art and mirrors can get scratched and nicked when you move them around, so it's important to cover them up with corner protectors like styrofoam or cardboard.
Antiques
- Antiques are usually priceless and can't be replaced. They can also be worth a lot of money and have a lot of sentimental value. That's why it's so important to take good care of them and move them around. We always recommend hiring a professional to do the job, but it's not always possible.
- If you're moving, it's a good idea to keep track of all your stuff. Take pictures, make notes, and make sure everything is documented. Also, make sure your home insurance covers any damage that might happen to your antiques. If it doesn't, it might be a good idea to get some antique or collectibles insurance.
- Next, gather all your stuff. You'll probably need a bunch of bubble wrap and packing tape, some moving blankets, some crates, and a set of tools. If you're moving a lot of antique furniture, make sure to call on a bunch of friends and family to help you out. Don't try to move the heavy stuff yourself - it'll scratch, dent, and damage the stuff, which will reduce its value.
- Once you've packed up your valuables, it's a good idea to put them in a wood crate. Most moving crates are custom-made, but if you can't find one, you can always use a sturdy outer layer like a big cardboard box.
